“Sarah was the first person in years who asked me what I was excited about. That was transformative. I am a different person, I am happy about my work now and I'm excited about rethinking what I prioritize in my career. I'm doing bolder science now than I was a year ago. So much of what I had been told about grant writing was do whatever you need to do to get the funding, you know, put the right names on it, build the team. But The Impact Incubator helped me to realize that the right name isn't just the person who’s well respected in the field. It’s actually someone who has that same fire about the same thing that I do. The program puts you in a room, virtually, with a bunch of people who are juggling their lives and doing really cool work and getting to hear their struggles and their triumphs—that community is so essential.”

“It was my goal to submit this R01 and the program helped me to understand that I have to prioritize if I want to get it done. So it gives you the courage and the determination to say no, I'm focusing on my grant. What this program has really made me realize is that you can’t wait for perfect conditions, you have to start. The program covers everything from the little writing details to the bigger career issues. I have a backbone and a structure now that I can go back to for grant writing, and that is so important professionally. The coaching calls are good because you get to connect with the other people in the Incubator and you see how they're doing, and to be honest it's also good sometimes to know that I’m not the only one struggling. It makes you connect to people that are going through the same thing.”

“When I signed up to do the Impact Incubator it was to light that fire under my feet and to get myself where I needed to be. What the program did for me was to put me in that mode where everything I was doing helped me to get the stars to line up in a row. Sarah and her team created the right atmosphere to put all of us at ease and get us to be comfortable enough to share the struggles that we all face in academia. So when you connect with people, and you connect with a team that you feel like you can trust, it's a game changer. I think it propels you forward in the right direction. The structure that I’ve gained from The Impact Incubator is something that can be translated broadly to paper writing, to other future applications to just so much else beyond this one grant.”
